Reawaken and nourish your skin for Spring with hydrating facial oils. Face oils have the ability to balance moisture, refine pores, reduce blemishes, and boost radiance - no matter what your skin type - and help protect your skin from the elements. Whether you add a couple of drops after you apply your face cream, or mix a bit with your primer or foundation, face oils are a great way to increase your glow factor... especially when the weather is cold and dry.
What are face oils?
Simply put, face oils are silky formulas made entirely from natural oils. They can be a blend of a few different plant-based oils or a single-origin product such as argan or rose hip oil. Oils are emollients, which means that unlike creams, which sink deep into the skin for intensive, long-lasting hydration, oils tend to hang out near the surface. Oils add barrier protection and act as the sealant that keeps moisture in.
What do face oils do?
Oils give skin an instant softness and smoothness. But more than that, they're often packed with essential nutrients, fatty acids, and antioxidants. Plus they form a protective layer for the cells- repairing and protecting the skin barrier due to external influences, like extreme temperatures, low humidity, sickness and travel. Essential fatty acids are crucial to replenishing and maintaining the hydration and nourishment levels of the skin. Since the body can't make them itself, it's important to get them from outside sources such as face oils.
How do you use face oils?
The most effective way to use a face oil is after you apply your moisturiser. Why? Applying the oil before the moisturiser prevents the moisturiser from penetrating into the skin cells because it can’t pass through the oil. Applying the moisturiser first and then patting the oil on top creates a moisture barrier, sealing the moisturiser into the skin and preventing the air from pulling moisture out from the skin. You should also apply your face oil to the skin after it has been freshly washed or splashed with water. Oil will hold that extra water on the skin and help the skin to rebalance itself faster.
STEP 1: On freshly washed skin that is still damp from washing, apply your face moisturiser of choice.
STEP 2: Add a few drops of your face oil onto your freshly washed fingers. Rub fingers together to slightly warm the oil.
STEP 3: Gently press the warmed oil across your forehead, cheeks, chin, and neck. Keep pressing gently until all the oil has absorbed into the skin (about 1-2 minutes).
STEP 4: Allow the product to sink in for a few minutes before applying your makeup. At nighttime be sure to complete your skincare regimen 1 hour before bed to allow maximum absorption time.
Got oily skin? Embrace face oils!
When skin is stripped of oil or is not properly replenished with natural oils and essential fatty acids, it continues to produce more oil. The best way to restore balance to oily skin is to use lightweight treatments that contain pure organic plant oils. Oils can help stabilize and regulate the overproduction of sebum and actually help get rid of acne. Argan, jojoba, tea tree, evening primrose, and almond oils are some of the best oils for skin that easily breaks out.
