4 Ways to Lead a More Sustainable Life

4 Ways to Lead a More Sustainable Life

Apr 18, 2022Glory Community

With Earth Day coming up on April 22, we thought it would be fun to share some easy ways to make small changes in your day to help lead a sustainable, earth-friendly lifestyle. Small changes add up, and lots of people making lots of small changes can lead to big impact! Why not challenge yourself to make one change each week in celebration of Earth Day? Here are four sustainable choices we can make every day.

Smoothie Cup

Bring your own cup

Canadians use an estimated 1.5 billion single use cups each year. That may seem enormous, but you can make a dent in that number by bringing your own reusable cup when you get your daily coffee or smoothie. Yes, we’ll put your smoothie in your cup at our Glory Juice cafes! The hardest part is remembering to bring your cup with you when you go, so we recommend keeping a clean travel mug next to your keys or bag as a reminder.

Organic Meals

Eat more plants

This one is near and dear to our hearts; eating more plants and less meat is one of the single most impactful choices an individual can make to reduce their carbon footprint. One study found that reducing average meat consumption by 50% could have a 20-30% reduction on greenhouse gas emissions. With so many delicious fruits and veggies available and the abundance of nutrients they provide, this is one choice that’s good for you AND the planet!

Biking

Walk, bike, or transit

Time to get out of the car and try out some new modes of transportation! Try walking or biking to your destination or take public transit if that’s a possibility where you live. Did you know that if we all chose to walk or bike for just 50% of the trips we take that are under 1 mile (1.6km), we could save 2 million metric tons of CO2 per year? That’s the equivalent of taking 400,000 cars off the road. Proof that the small choices really do add up!

Bring your own tote

Single-use plastics are one of the biggest contributors to plastic waste worldwide. In Canada alone, 3.25 million tonnes of plastic waste is generated—much of it from grocery stores—and only 9% of it is recycled! An easy way to reduce your footprint is to avoid using plastic bags at the grocery store. Rather than adding to plastic waste every time you shop, take a sustainable tote bag from Glory or (local Vancouver company ) to carry your groceries home.

Organic Juices

Choose organic

We’ve saved our favourite sustainable choice for last: choose organic! Organic farming replenishes and maintains soil fertility without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers. It also encourages practices that support biodiversity and reduce environmental impacts. Environmental health is one of the many reasons all of our Glory Juice products are organic; plus, we think it just tastes better. Try for yourself: our organic cold-pressed juice is an easy way to add more organic produce to your diet.
